John Kerry Saves the Day

Or, rather, his incompetence saves us from his vanity run. He is such an unappetizing standard-bearer that I applaud anything that derails his delusional presidential run. Yeah, it's annoying that the right wing propaganda machine is distorting the story, but that guy is such damaged goods that he could never win. And his politics are mediocre, so let's make room for someone better.

And sometimes the reactionary reaction even makes me titter:

Myeh. Politicians make slips of the tongue all the time. Everybody does. The problem isn't that the right-wing propaganda machine is promoting an obvious distortion, it's that the mainstream media picked up the story even though it was incredibly obvious what the guy meant to say. Should he have ignored it and made no response? That's what he tried to do with the Swift Boat people and it didn't work. It's a bullshit nonstory and the media is going with it 24/7. That's an institutional problem, not a problem with John Kerry, who I don't particularly like, btw.

Right, I totally agree that it's an institutional problem. By right-wing propaganda machine I was actually thinking cable news, including CNN (who an hour ago ran a story called "What Would Alex P. Keaton Do?" about how APK would respond to Michael J. Fox's campaigning for stem cell research).

But my point was, that propaganda machine isn't going to be stopped in this presidential cycle, but at least John Kerry probably just was. Object to the means, but enjoy the result.

John Kerry didn't have a prayer anyway. All that just happened was we lost a couple of House seats.

Wait, connect the dots. Which races would this change and why?

Speaking of which, is this funny? About a minute into it he got me, and from then on I was chuckling.

Check out this pretty smart take on the whole thing.
