Here's how pessimistic I've gotten about the environment

When I read a story like this one, I pretty much assume that the worst-case scenario is going to happen, more likely than not because the U.S. will kill the treaties to deal with it. The Senate still hasn't ratified the POPs Treaty, for fuck's sake--how hard is it to sign a treaty banning something you've already banned by law in all but a couple of cases?
