Tonight for Halloween I'm dressing as this televised debate between Michel Foucault and Noam Chomsky

If I don't stick with "sexy orphaned Jew Teen," I mean.

What a weird spectacle. Chomsky is admirably a child of the Enlightenment, talking about "fundamental human nature" being shackled by an oppressive society, whereas I don't think Foucault's Nietzscheanism would even let the idea of a fundamental human nature into the room. Chomsky is right out there with a political program; Foucault always avoids the basic question of "why": Why must we critique the institutions and fight against them? To what end? To establish what kind of "freedom"?

    Anyway, Foucault is clearly hotter.

I stayed in last night (Halloween). I couldn't find my bald wig for my Foucault/Chomsky costume.
