El Borbah
I know I complained recently about my favorite comic-book writers spending all their time pumping out reissues of their old stuff. (The worst culprit in this regard is Dan Clowes, whose Ice Haven [$18.95, release date June 7, 2005] is exactly the same story as Eightball #22 [$5.95, release date Oct. 2001, and still in print].) But I feel like it’s a little different when the collection pulls together very old stuff that was first published in multiple issues of anthology comics, as in this case (El Borbah stories originally appeared in several issues of RAW in 1984 and 1985).
El Borbah is a 400-pound luchador Private Investigator. His tales are pure pulp and beautifully drawn in Charles Burns’s trademark style, where everyone looks plastic and mannequin-ish. It’s not as good as his recent 12-issue Black Hole series (now collected for book release) but for early work it’s not bad at all.

Oooh, you finally wrote about a comic I've actually read before. I used to have those RAWs. In fact, I might still have them in New Haven somewhere.
Such excellent stuff, and so beautifully drawn.
